எல்லா புராதன மொழிகளைப் போலவே சம்ஸ்க்ருத மொழியில் ஏராளமான பழமொழிகள் அல்லது சுபாஷிதங்கள் (நன்மொழிகள்) உள்ளன. தமிழில் திருக்குறள், நாலடியார் போன்ற நூல்களில் உள்ள செய்யுள்களுக்கு ஒப்பானவை இந்த சுபாஷிதங்கள். பல கவிஞர்கள் காவியங்களில் இயற்றிய சுபாஷிதங்களும் தொகுக்கப் பட்டு சுபாஷித ரத்ன பாண்டாஹாரம், சுபாஷிதாவளி போன்ற நூல்களாக அமைந்துள்ளன. பர்த்ருஹரி போன்ற ஒரே கவிஞர் எழுதிய சுபாஷிதங்களும் நூல்களாக அமைந்துள்ளன. இவற்றிலிருந்து சில சுவையான கவிதைகளை பார்ப்போம்.
